Activities

The BNAE operates at three levels i.e. National, European and International.

International

  • Acting under the authority of AFNOR, BNAE is a member of the ISO/TC 20 Technical Committee, a specialised committee for Aerospace activity. This committee is itself divided into a dozen subcommittees in which BNAE fully participates and where, it supports the French position elaborated in the mirror working groups.

European

Over half of BNAE's standardization activity is spent on European standardization.
  • It is actively involved in the work led by ASD-STAN ((Aeropsace and defence industries association of Europe). ASD-STAN is recognised by the CEN (Comité Européen de Normalisation) as an Associated Standardization Body.
  • BNAE is also represented on all the ASD-STAN Standardization Technical Committees. It puts forward together with its French fellow members, the position elaborated in the working groups. It actes as a focal point.
  • In addition, BNAE publishes all the ASD-STAN European Standard documents (prEN in English).
  • Its other activities include the elaboration of the French version of ASD-STAN produced normative documents (prEN pre-standards, EN standards).
  • BNAE is also responsible for launching inquiries on ECSS (European Committee for Space Standardization) documents which are submitted to a national vote in view of their conversion to European Standards. It also undertakes the inquiry response analysis.

National

  • It elaborates within its Working Groups, which are open to all experts from Industry and Government, the French position which is to be supported before the International, European and National Bodies responsible for Standardization.
  • In these same Working Groups, BNAE develops and finalises the documents which are then put forward as the French proposals for presentation to the supranational Standardization Bodies.
  • BNAE may first establish normative documents in French within their AFNOR accredited section, the NF-L series, or recommendations (RG).
  • BNAE has and continues to dedicate a major part of its work to its Program Management General Recommendations which today has become widely recognised in other countries and by other industries.
